Planning a Children's Party: Checklist for Busy Moms

You don't want to hire a party planner for your child's birthday party, you want to be involved all the way, but still you are very busy, you have to go to work everyday. Here's a checklist of things you can plan weeks before the party, while you still focus at work.

4 WEEKS BEFORE THE PARTY.

-Have a budget of how much you want to spend.
-Get your venue sorted out, if you don't plan to use your house.
-Choose a party theme for your child.
-Draw up a guest list; ensure you have adults around to look after the kids(if their parents or guardians don't come with them)
-Pick the time and the length of the party( children's parties are not always too long, 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 hours is just perfect)

3 WEEKS BEFORE THE PARTY

-Make or buy invitations and send them out
-Make or buy decorations, party packs or prizes.

2 WEEKS BEFORE THE PARTY

-Decide on activities and games to play: consider the ages of the children and plan games and activities accordingly.(Plan more games than you expect to use, should in case you run out of games)
-Plan your menu (proper food and sweets). Remember that parties are not a good time to introduce new foods to children. Just stick to what children are familiar with.

1 WEEK BEFORE THE PARTY

-Order cake from the bakery, or bake your own cake.
-Buy foodstuff ahead of time and refrigerate

1 OR 2 DAYS BEFORE THE PARTY

-Draw out the menu/program of the party
-Prepare cameras, video recorders, cam coders etc
-Prepare foods that can be made ahead of time.

PARTY DAY

-Prepare foods and drinks
-Set up the outdoor decor
-Pick up the cake from the bakery

AFTER THE PARTY

-Plan a nap for you and your child(its been a dramatic day am sure)

**NOTE** If as a mum, you would rather hire the service of an event planner, please don't hesitate to do so.
